He Has Herpes. I Do Not. Is Risk-Free Sex Possible?

Dr. Betty,

I hope you are in good spirits, as you're reading this.

I have met a potential sexual partner, who revealed to me on our first coffee date that he has herpes, and is on daily antivirals. This did not completely rule out us having sex, however, I am concerned about the rate of transmission. I've done my research, but would still like your opinion.

Do you believe having sex with an HSV suffer is too risky?

Thank you for your time,

Miss. Chief

Dear C,

My Vibrator is Too Intense

Hi Betty

Thank you sooooo much for your advice! My Mystic wand arrived today and I am pleased to say I have had my first orgasm! I have to say though, i was a bit disappointed.

It wasn't very intense - and it took 45 mins to get there! I am hoping it will get quicker and easier to climax the more I use this new toy. Can you just tell me....should I be moving this wand around for best results or keep in one place? Not sure how to use exactly!

Thank you Betty :)

Good News!

Is It Possible for Your Hymen to Heal or Regrow?

Dear Dr. Betty,

I apologize if this is a strange question, or if it makes little sense, I don't know how to word it exactly. I was reading an article some time ago about the hymen and how it isn't really what most people think it is. I had seen a video of yours previously that dealt with a similar subject.

How Can I Liberate Myself from Guilt & Shame & Enjoy Sex with a Woman?

Dear Dr. Betty,

I don't feel comfortable with myself because I am 30 and never had sex. Not even a kiss, not even a relationship with anyone, never been touched by anyone, never touched anyone. Nothing. Never.

Since I was 13, I am perfectly aware of my being lesbian, and I spent a long time feeling guilty about it. I've felt wrong for long. More precisely, I have been feeling guilty, shameful and all that bad stuff about sexuality. About being sexual, you know?

How Do We Combat Genital Shame Among Girls?

Hi Betty,

I have been an admirer and advocate of your work for many years. I work as a health educator and counselor and have been talking with young women (and men) for over two decades about the importance of masturbation in celebration of self. Your "Selfloving" DVD has been an important part of that necessary education. I have also been teaching an introductory Women's Studies course for the past four years, and have utilized your video each semester.

My Labia Chafe When I Run

Hi Dr. Betty,

I read your website everyday! Thank you for providing such an inspirational and informational place.

My inner labia extend well past my labia majora. I am an avid runner. My problem is that I experience painful chafing on my inner labia, to the point where I bleed. It is very painful. I've tried tight underwear, loose underwear, tight shorts, loose shorts, and all other options.

Is this a common problem for women? And do you know of any possible solutions? Thank you so much for your time.

Dear S,

Will Her Vibrator be the Beginning or End of Our Relationship?

Dear Dr. Betty,

I'm from Germany, I stumpled upon Your webpage some time ago and I liked it very much especially for my further sexual education and understanding of the sexuality of women. Finally I decided to write you some of my questions in hope of Your answer (though You probably have questions/problems more dire to attend to) - well here it is.

Embarrassed About My Big Clitoris

Hi Dr. Betty,

I'm a humongous fan of yours and you have completely changed my outlook on sex, love, and life in general. So thank you! I have a question for you. When I stand up with my legs pressed together you can see my clitoral hood quite easily, as well as my inner labia. It's all hanging out for everyone to see. Is this normal?

After My Vibe Can I have Manual Orgasms?

Hi Dr. Betty,

I've spent quite a bit of time reading your great posts. I still have a question, though, about orgasm with manual stimulation. I completely agree a woman should be able to bring a vibrator into any sexual encounter-- and I do-- but I would still really love to be able to orgasm without a vibrator. I'm 29 and have never been able to do this.

Am I forever addicted to the vibrator, or is there hope?

Thank you!
J

Dear J,

I Want to Be the One Initiating Sex but I Just Can't

Hi Dr. Betty,

I just discovered your website this week and have found it so informative and refreshing. I have been in a monogamous relationship for 3 years (I am 22) but have never been able to initiate sex myself. I was date raped during high school and only in the last couple of years have I really started to be more comfortable sexually.
