Dear Dr. Betty,

I hate being the person who asks this question but I'm a 20-something year old woman who loves sex. I know exactly what I love and how to get myself off when I'm with a man and have a good, healthy sexual appetite.

However, I find myself facing something I've never come across before. All of my previous partners have been uncircumcised men but, my new boyfriend (who I have yet to get physical with) *is* circumcised.

I'm hearing myths and all kinds of stories about the lack of sensitivity in a circumcised penis and I feel as though everything I ever learned about sex, how to get a guy off and stimulate him, as well as myself is about to be thrown out of the window.

So, my question is, is there a big difference between having sex with a circumcised penis and an uncircumcised penis?

Dear C,

For most women it's who's attached to the penis that counts most. Both Carlin and I have had lovers both cut and uncut. My most recent sex partner was circumcised and he was a great lover The longest relationship I ever had was with an intact man. It wasn't until the past couple of years when I finally learned more about circumcision that I spoke out against the procedure. It's an unnecessary attack on the male sex organ that was originally done to prevent boys from masturbating. It's my belief that circumcision diminishes the pleasure for both the man and a woman.

As for your question, it will depend more upon him rather than his foreskin to determine any big difference. For the most part, we are still fairly primitive when it comes to understanding human sexuality. The one big difference will be adding additional lubrication. Without a foreskin, the penile glans is not moist but rather dry with tougher skin. So invest in a good lube. Water based if your using condoms or a good organic massage oil if you're on the pill.
