I am a practicing consultant in internal medicine and has extensively reviewed literature on sexuality and masturbation.I believe that almost all of us have done masturbation or are still doing it. Mostly it is done privately and not talked about much because it considered socially embarrassing. During the adolescent years it is an adaptive response to our maturing sexuality . We explore our genitalia during childhood due to curiosity and pleasurable feelings.
As we reach puberty, due to hormonal changes the sex drive increases and so does the frequency of masturbation. Once ejaculation and orgasm occurs then there is a desire to achieve that out of the world feeling again and again. In my view it is the best method to avoid unwanted teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Now I will come to my own experience. I have been fondling my penis since the age of four or five years. I used to get erections and enjoyed the pleasure of touching or stroking my penis. By the age of 12 years I started having growth of pubic hair and the size of penis and testicles started increasing. Sexual desire also increased and there were spontaneous erections.
One day I had a very firm erection and was enjoying by stroking the penis and testicles when suddenly there was strange feeling of something coming out of the penis along with extremely pleasurable feelings. I immediately ran to the bathroom but there was no ejaculation. After one or two days while masturbating I had the same sensation but this time there were spurts of semen coming out of the penis. Since then masturbation had been a regular practice twice or thrice in a week even after marriage. From medical point of view it is an established fact that masturbation has no harmful effects on the body. On the contrary it has beneficial effects in the form of relieving stress and gives protection from unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, and prostatic carcinoma.
