Indiana University released their national sex survey - we had to review their findings. It seems that the clitoris still reigns supreme.

I just love this piece. Who knew that women get erections just like men:

The Woman on the Cover is Both Madonna & Whore

I've been radio silent for a while, mostly because I see and hear so many things that need addressing that I tend to get overwhelmed and not sure where to begin.

But last week Time magazine came out with a cover story that has had the blogosphere, the internet, the radio, and television news a buzz. And I can't let this one go unaddressed because I think this is more of a womens' issue than a mothering issue or a breastfeeding issue.

People Should Not be Projects

By nature, I'm just not a big risk taker. My prudish nature coupled with sheltering parents has left me with no sense of adventure. As I've said before, I consider not shaking the orange juice thoroughly before drinking to be a pretty badass move.

One reason I don't take risks is because I'm okay with living with "what if" in most cases. If there's a moderate chance of this risk fucking some shit up in my life, then I just don't do it. I typically don't regret it, either.

Occupy Wall Street Gearing Up for May Day

This is such good news for springtime in NYC. For all my friends who doubt the capabilities of OWS complaining that they have no leader, no agenda and no list of demands.

Let me say this: Back in the sixties, People Power stopped the Vietnam War, women kicked off our next round of demands for equality and we began the process of integration for people of color. While progress seems painfully slow, that's just viewing the glass half empty. The big difference this time is that People Power has the Internet, a truly brand new weapon: A Democratic form of communication.

I'm going to go off my own topic for this post.  There has been some mention in other recent posts about the repressive nature of certain religious organizations, so I thought I would share this with you.

For nearly a century, ( I won't quote the exact dates), the Catholic Church operated an "asylum" system for fallen women in Ireland and Scotland.

Young women who were protitutes, unwed mothers, or who were pretty, and turned the heads of young men, causing them to have "sinful" thoughts were committed, sometimes for life, in these institutions.  Basically slave labor for the purpose of, what else?  Raising money for the Church.

The Best Birth Control in the World

I believe one of the major breakdowns in our culture with respect to sexuality is that women are solely responsible for the consequences of sex. Birth control falls squarely on the woman's shoulders (yes some men carry/use condoms but I can count on one hand how many men pulled a condom out before we had sex).

As it turns out the easiest, cheapest birth control in the world is FOR MEN:

Here we go again with academics love of letters to signify the latest in sexology: The results of this recent online survey of only 124 women who reported experiencing exercise-induced orgasms (EIO) and 246 women who experienced exercise-induced sexual pleasure (EISP). Sometimes I worry that we have forgotten the (CIO) clitoral induced orgasms.

Attempting Suicide While Pregnant = Murder?

Katha Pollit writing for the Nation states: “On March 14, Bei Bei Shuai will have spent one full year in jail in Marion County, Indiana. Her crime? The prosecutor calls it attempted feticide and murder. What it really is: attempting suicide while pregnant.”

Nina Turner: Focusing Attention on Men's Reproductive Rights

Ohio State Senator Nina Turner is stripping it down by putting pressure exactly where it hurts older modern men most - in the supply chain of Viagra.

She’s focusing attention on men’s reproductive rights by introducing a bill that would require men to meet certain government conditions before they can receive Viagra prescriptions.

Specifically, the bill would require psychological counseling to ensure that there is a legitimate medical reason for taking Viagra by forcing men to prove they have erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, the bill would require doctors to inform men, in writing, about the health risks associated with Viagra type drugs.

Why Birth Control Matters

After hearing for the umpthteenth time "why do I have to pay for you to have sex", I have to give the issue some context.

First, birth control saves money:

According to the Brookings Institution, a public investment of $235 million in helping the poorest women in America access birth control would save the public $1.32 billion.

And you're not paying for anyone to have sex. Our government is requiring that health insurance companies cover birth control as part of your health coverage. You go to a health provider to get birth control, correct? You can't buy it online or over-the-counter; hence, it's part of a woman's preventative healthcare.

It's a bit cheesy but poignant.

You have to remember that black men were given the right to vote a half century before women.  And we were NOT given the right to vote - we had to fight for it, go on hunger strikes, and almost kill ourselves:

I Believe We May be Seeing the Beginnings of Woman Spring

Rush Limbaugh, and his ignorant, overstuffed shirt commentary about Sandra Fluke has finally ignited a fire in the womb of American women. I believe we may be seeing the beginnings of Woman Spring.

I personally have heard enough of the moral and religious views of sexually repressed males who insist on humiliating, suppressing and controlling female sexuality. There's been a war raging against women - and it's not going to just blow over.

What are conservative guys like Limbaugh so afraid of anyway? Why are they trying so desperately to hang onto old-time religious views of women and sex?

And here’s the big question. Why can't women do and fuck whoever they want without someone with "conservative values" looking into their business?
