When Republicans Supported Planned Parenthood

Yes, that's George Bush Sr.'s signature at the bottom of a congratulatory letter to Planned Parenthood.  There was a time when the Republicans were pro-contraception and pro-woman.  They whored themselves out for votes when Jerry Falwell and his brand of Christian Fundamentalism spread across the country like a cancer.

This letter was sent in 1972 after FDA approved the pill.  Margaret Sanger had to wait her whole life - until she was in her 80s - to see contraception go mainstream.  I know someone who's 83 and worked her whole life to advance women's sexual pleasure....

Glen Beck: Hookers Use Planned Parenthood

My parents are ardent Glen Beck supporters - they watch him every day, buy all his books, and they even went to his Washington rally.  I hate Glen Beck for many reasons but I was shocked to read that he mocked Lawrence O'Donnell's emotional defense of Planned Parenthood--and the woman whose email drove him to tears.

Here's the video of O'Donnell:

Corporations are People & Women are Not

Thom Hartman's video on truthout about how Republicans are going after women with their attempts to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict a woman's right to choose makes my blood boil.  In this country corporations are people and women are NOT.

I have always objected to using male pronouns exclusively. Many of my friends insist that the pronoun “he” is generic and automatically includes women. That my friend is total Bull Shit!!! When anyone refers to “mankind” believe me, that’s what they mean— men only. Male and female pronouns are very relevant.

Relief and Release: Responding to a Mormon Virgin's Visit to Planned Parenthood

When I saw Nicole Hardy's piece in the New York Times, Single, Female, Mormon, Alone, about the author's visit to Planned Parenthood as a 35-year-old virgin, my chest expanded with recognition. Yes, I thought. Yes yes yes. As I read, my pulse quickened in a rush.

The recognition was cultural, rather than directly personal. She was not telling my story. My adulthood did not include many years of celibacy. I took a different road from a similar starting place. But reading this account brought unexpected comfort and insight.

Please Support Planned Parenthood

The reproductive health organization Planned Parenthood is under one of the worst attacks from the US government that it has ever had to face. The House of Representatives, a group who is in no way, shape, or form, representing me on this matter, has voted to stop ALL federal funding to Planned Parenthood health centers.

You might be thinking What can I do about this? Good Question! First, understand that you are powerful. Your opinions, thoughts and desires, whether in person, on video, paper, or the internet, matter. Next, please follow these links to support Planned Parenthood:

Democratic Congress Woman Reveals Abortion on House Floor

This woman is amazing.  More and more of us are coming out.  Her righteous indignation is so appropriate - Rep. Jackie Speier calls out the GOP's vendetta against Planned Parenthood.  The best part is when she questions why Halliburton's contracts are funded when they've committed extortion and a legal group like Planned Parenthood is constantly having their funding challenged.

Support Our Right to Reproductive Health Information

Please support Planned Parenthood's effort to overturn the Bush Rule limiting access to health care information by clicking this link and submitting your email comment.

Just before leaving office, the Bush administration released a rule that limits the rights of patients to receive complete and accurate reproductive health information and services. The rule allows doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to simply withhold information about, for example, birth control and HIV testing and treatment. It also allows health care workers to deny any basic health care service based on their personal biases.

In order to overturn the Bush administration rule, President Obama had to write a new rule that must undergo a period of public review. Take the next step and urge everyone you know to submit their own comments: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/issues-action/birth-control/title-x-family-planning-funding/bushs-attack-womens-health-still-bad-medicine-23106.htm
