Better Orgasms. Better World.
I thought that after 8 years of Bush, people would become better informed. His selection by the Supreme Court was what motivated me to better understand politics and governance. I kept saying the terrorists are in the White House thinking it was mainly Republicans.
The American people have no idea what is happening to our young men and women sent to Iraq and then come home. We all need to take time to read the words of those who have been there and done the killing! We need to listen to the mothers and wives who make the best effort they can to help their sons, husbands and daughters return to civilian life with no help from our government! America is now in the business of war and war is the heaviest drug available. In the words of one combat soldier:
"It's almost like a religious experience to see a battlefield," he said. "To hear the explosions - to see a person bleeding out and die - see everything on fire and smell the smoke and burning flesh. It makes you truly realize what it is to be alive. Combat is the biggest rush you can have."
My friend Alan Kishbaugh sent this to me. Although I make an effort to accept other's beliefs when it comes to religion, like most Americans I want a division of church and state.
I'm sorry to say that as hard as I try, I find it extremely difficult to understand how people today see the Bible as "the word of God." He's not my god, nor a large proportion of other Americans. A lot of church going folks have managed to deal with their version of a more modern God successfully. The problem is with the evangelicals that believe in the Bible literally like Bush Jr. In my worst nightmare, I could not have imagined a more dangerous president. Like Alan said, Bush Jr. was a bigger nut case than we knew." Now the pitiful Republicans want to blame Obama for the mess we're in.
The revelation this month in GQ Magazine that Donald Rumsfeld as Defense Secretary embellished top-secret wartime memos with quotations from the Bible prompts a question. Why did he believe he could influence President Bush by that means?
The answer may lie in an alarming story about George Bush's Christian millenarian beliefs that has yet to come to light.
Maybe we should send in some human rights attorneys with the troops to Afganistan to protect the women and girls who are paying the price of war.
"In Afghanistan, the sacrifice in the political game is women and children," female Afghan parliamentarian Fawzia Koofi said. Koofi says that is exactly what happened when the Afghan parliament recently passed a bill intended to give the minority Shiite community their own identity. But critics say the latest draft strips Shiite women of rights as simple as leaving the house without permission from a male relative and as extreme as allowing a man to have sexual intercourse with his wife even when she says, "No."
These critics wonder how what amounts to rape in marriage could be passed by parliament and signed into law by President Hamid Karzai.
This is one of those days where I'm convinced that all things sex are a distraction from the destruction taking place by our government. We are completely addicted to war and building more military bases. STOP IT USA! Instead of destroying poppy fields (the main source of revenue in Afghanistan)how about we stop trying to control the world and take care of our own crumbling infra structure. I live on Madison Avenue in NYC and it's falling apart. It's become a pot holed country dirt road. Listen to what Tom Engelhardt says about the Af-Pak-War.
Let's start by stopping.
It's time, as a start, to stop calling our expanding war in Central and South Asia "the Afghan War" or "the Afghanistan War." If Obama's special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke doesn't want to, why should we? Recently, in a BBC interview, he insisted that "the 'number one problem' in stabilizing Afghanistan was Taliban sanctuaries in western Pakistan, including tribal areas along the Afghan border and cities like Quetta" in the Pakistani province of Baluchistan.
Something's rotten in the State of America! How come Obama is talking about Cheney rather than calling him up on criminal charges for torture among other things? Do we dialogue with criminals now instead of arresting them? Is this the result of having so many criminals in government that we now think it's normal? Let's get behind the ACLU, sign their petition, and pitch in to get some much needed action. Carlin thinks that Obama agreed not to prosecute Bush/Cheney in exchange for the $350B in unspent bailout funds.
It's been six years since the first reports of detainee abuse and nearly five years since Abu Ghraib. A recent report from the International Committee of the Red Cross provided undeniable documentation of torture at Guantánamo. Yet the Justice Department has failed to prosecute any civilians for crimes related to interrogation, except a single contractor in June 2004.
Last week, the ACLU sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder calling for the appointment of an independent prosecutor to investigate the interrogation of detainees in the war on terror. Help reach the goal of 25,000 citizens calling for a full and fair criminal investigation. Sign a petition demanding the Justice Department appoint a Special Counsel to investigate the torture and abuse of detainees.
One of Iran’s most popular actresses, Farahani was just banned from leaving her native country after starring in “Body of Lies” with Leonardo DiCaprio. Here's the trailer:
