Take a few minutes and look through these images from The Scar Project - the women featured are all breast cancer survivors.

I have to admit that before reading The Scar Project's mission statement I had no idea that breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for women aged 15-40.  What a beautiful awareness campaign - what beautiful, courageous women.

“I’m sorry I’m not wearing any pants,” I said, for the third time already, today.

“It’s okay,” said the technician, because what else are you going to say to that sort of thing?

I had my first mammogram.

It all started a few weeks ago, when I went to the doctor for a desperate case of WTF, Period Edition — Mood swings that typically left me in a heap of tears and self-loathing, cramps like a kick in the gut from an angry robot (robots are strong, guys), blood that flowed like boxed wine at a bunco party.

She did the usual poking around, and when she got to my breasts, she poked a little more deliberately. Turned out I had a lump and would need to have it checked.

Survived Breast Cancer - Had Hysterectomy - Sex is Painful. HELP

I am a 65 year old breast cancer survivor. My breast cancer has been removed and I have taken 6 weeks of radiation. I have also had a hysterectomy in 1997 due to fibroids. For the last 8 months I have had constant bladder infections, yeast infections, bacterial infections and just last month my bartholin gland was swollen and finally blew up!

As you can well imagine, my husband and I are having trouble with painful sex and now I have no desire to have sex because every time we do, something happens like another infection. I am using the following products: Rephresh, Replens, Astro Glide, Cystex, and femdophilus. My cancer was estrogen fed, so I can not use any estrogen therapy. Can you give us any suggestions of where to go from here?

Dear P,

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced yesterday that women with breast implants may be more likely to get a rare cancer of the immune system. A small number of women with implants have developed anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), possibly as a result of silicone found in cells around the implants.

The cases include women with both saline- and silicone gel-filled implants, both of which are contained in a silicone envelope.

Single, age 68 (very young), not in a relationship, but interested, hysterectomy at age 44, on estrogen replacement for over 20 years till last year, testosterone cream (a little) for 2-3 years till last year, surprise invasive breast cancer last year, lumpectomy Nov., as of April on Arimidex aromatase inhibitor, supposedly for next 5 yrs., I am trying to work the mind over matter, around the deprivation of all my "fountain of youth" hormones and am starting to despair over lack of physical both skin/touch and vaginal feeling and capability to respond to fantasy and masturbation (I try to keep up the good work and not let go of hope).
