Bodysex: A Space for Women to be Free

Work on the Bodysex DVD is continuing at the Goddess temple on Manhattan's East Side. Monday and Tuesday have been devoted to interviews with participants.

One feature of Betty's videos is a lot of interview time. I'm not a big fan of the word 'empowerment', but if anything is empowering for women, it's hearing what their sisters have to say about sex and desire. I could write a long article about why this is, but there is one reason that stands out, but to sum up, opening up a space wherre women can speak about these topics without the fear of judgment is essential to all sexual healing.

After watching the group orgasm vid I am wondering where I can learn more about the ritual that is ancient. The prehistory of woman and the god of sexual health and abundance.

Vintage Betty Dodson Bodysex Flyers

I love these old flyers.

You get how Betty's workshops grew out of the conscious raising groups of the feminist movement.  It was the logical extension of women coming together to share their life experiences - they came together to share their orgasms. I posted all the flyers on flickr.

I can't wait to film Betty's last bodysex group this fall.  Casting is almost done - if you'd like to donate to the production and get a first edition copy of the dvd (there are other rewards too), make your donation to our Kickstarter project

Mother's Day Wankers: Betty's Workshop For Men

"WANKER'S WORKSHOP" read the bold type in the Village Voice. The year was 1983 just before AIDS was about to throw America into a sexual panic. Howard Smith, the editor of Scene's, was telling his readers about my men's workshops. Since the subject was masturbation, he was milking it for laughs like everyone else did. When he first called, I told him the men's workshops were due to popular demand.

"Betty, it sounds utterly crazy. I'm sorry, but I'm hard pressed to follow what you're up to. I can understand how women could benefit from learning about masturbation; it would teach them how to have orgasms. But most research shows men are regular masturbators and they start at an early age. So what's to teach?"
