Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross
Better Orgasms. Better World.
Dear Betty,
I am 18 years old and am seriously looking into going to the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. i am extremely discouraged by many people, but i know it's something i VERY MUCH would like to do. Ever since i was little i knew i would end up going to school for this and i was always interested in things that people looked at as "sinful" or bad. i really don't know where to start. Do you have any advice that would help me?
Much Appreciated,
A
Dear B,
The Institute is for advanced degrees. You would need to have graduated from another school with a masters degree or get credit for some form of work relating to the field of sexuality. Don't let this discourage you. I'm enclosing my standard response to questions like this.
Some feedback on our presentation at AASECT. I'm the "beautiful new young partner". Big thank you to Wendy from Good Clean Fun:
This year at AASECT, a friend of mine who has produced Sexual Education videos for decades won an award for his film about Betty Dodson's life and work. The award presentation was touching and funny. As she presented the award to Mark, and then took it back, saying "Hey, this is my life, where the hell is my award???" The audience roared with her typical, outlandish and fearless truth telling. One never expects anything but her being totally and completely herself, which I think is bound to happen when your life work is about opening up sexuality to millions of women.
She is considered the founder of sex-positive feminism which centers on the idea that sexual freedom is an essential component of women's freedom. Her outspoken views of sexuality excludes labels and as such she has long called herself a heterosexual, bisexual lesbian. She looks forward to the day we can all be just "sexual."
We're in Phoenix for the AASECT conference. It will be our first joint presentation and the debut of the first 2 clips from our Sex Skills Series.
This is the first podcast from our new website (I know but when I was writing the copy I couldn't get that Cheap Trick rif out of my mind).

I'll admit I resist going to conferences even when they're dealing with my favorite subject of SEX! As I looked over the catalogue from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), I silently thought, "Maybe, but mostly, maybe not." Then I got a call from one of the conference organizers, Michelle, who proceeded to seduce me with the fact that there would be a huge turn out for AASECT's 40th anniversary. She offered me a three hour pre-conference workshop which meant some of my costs would be covered. The kicker was that the conference would be held in New Orleans, June 08.
