Better Orgasms. Better World.
Dear Betty,
I seem to have tiny white spots on my vulva. At first, i was very worried about these but i found out that they are Fordyce spots. i am a virgin (i'm 18), so i knew it wasn't any kind of STD. i was wondering if there is any way to get rid of these? i just don't like the way they look! also, i have gotten recurring sebaceous cysts near my clitoris. i went to the gyno about it once and he told me to take hot baths and gave me antibiotics. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY VULVA?!?! i wear cotton underpants and i don't wear particularly tight pants and i use mild soaps! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BETTY!!!!
Dear MH,
I'm a sexologist not a medical doctor, but as you noted, your Gynecologist wasn't much help either. While a hot bath wouldn't be harmful, I'd avoid taking antibiotics needlessly. Save them for a life threatening disease.
According to what I've read, Fordyce spots are normal large, superficial sebaceous (oil-producing) glands seen on the moist tissue that lines some organs and body cavities that have mucosal surfaces. These bumps result from sweat gland ducts that become blocked. Some health care professionals proscribe topical meds used to treat acne. Unless you are suffering from intense itching, I'd ignore them. Chances are good they will just go away. There is nothing "wrong" with your vulva other than having a bit of "acne" which is best treated through diet, keeping the area clean, letting your vulva breathe by avoiding underwear when possible and sleeping nude.
Instead of examining your pussy and focusing on what's wrong, how about paying attention to the beautiful form and function by including masturbation and orgasms as part of your vulva health routine. Just don't use oil to lube up your clit. See if your own vaginal secretions or saliva works or use a battery vibrator on top of your white cotton panties. If at all possible, follow up your orgasm with a vulva sunbath in the back yard and don't forget to say nice things to "her." Let me know what works.
Dr. Betty
