Dear Betty Dodson,

I am a 33 year old man. I read your book "Sex For One" when I was probably 17 years old! Now, all these years later I come back to you to ask for your help. I am friends with an older woman (43) who has recently informed me that not only has she never had an orgasm, but she doesn't even masturbate! This made me very sad. I want to help her. I realize it is up to her, ultimately, but she has expressed a desire to learn. At this time, however, she doesn't seem to want me as a partner to help her to learn how to start playing with herself. That is ok, I just want to see her discover and enjoy her sexuality. I have two questions. 1. Do you believe there is hope for this woman ( I believe there is). 2. What would be the best way that I could help her get started? (maybe a book or vibrator?)

What a sweetheart you are to concern yourself with her lack of pleasure. Of course she can learn how to masturbate. My oldest client was in her early 80's. Women can begin masturbating at any age.
