Better Orgasms. Better World.
You so know that if the religious right could pull off the same thing here in the states that they would. That poor Iranian actress who's ex leaked a sex tape is still under investigation and could be executed. I feel like we're in the dark ages:
Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.
With a 148-5 vote in favor and four abstentions, lawmakers present at the Wednesday session of the 290-seat parliament approved that "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corrupter of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corrupter of the world."
The term, "corrupter of the world" is taken from the Quran, the Muslims' holy book, and ranks among the highest on the scale of an individual's criminal offenses. Under Iran's Islamic Penal Code, it carries a death penalty.
The "main elements" referred to in the draft include producers, directors, cameramen and actors involved in making a pornographic video.
The bill also envisages convictions ranging from one year imprisonment to a death sentence for the main distributors of the movies and also producers of Web sites in which the pornographic works appear.
Besides videos, the bill covers all electronic visual material, such as DVDs and CDs. Other material, such as porn magazines and books, are already banned under Iranian law.
To become law, the bill requires an approval by the Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog in Iran.
It is widely believed that the drafting of the bill came about as a reaction to a scandal last year, when a private videotape, apparently belonging to Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi and allegedly showing her having intercourse with a man, became available across Iran.
The videotape was leaked to the Internet and released on a black market DVD, becoming a full-blown Iranian sex tape scandal. Ebrahimi later came under an official investigation, which is still ongoing. She faces fines, whip lashing or worse for her violation of Iran's morality laws.
The unnamed man on the tape, who is suspected of releasing it, reportedly fled to Armenia but was subsequently returned to Iran and charged with breach of public morality laws. He remains in jail.
In an exclusive interview with the British newspaper The Guardian early this year, Ebrahimi denied she was the woman in the film and dismissed it as a fake, made by a vengeful former fiance bent on destroying her career.
In recent years, private videotapes have increasingly been leaked to the public in Iran, riling the government and many in this conservative Islamic country, where open talk of sex is banned and considered taboo.
However, pornographic material is easily accessible through foreign satellite television channels in Iran. Bootleg videotapes and CDs are also available on the black market on many street corners.
well it's them that's living in the dark ages, CB, not us. But yes, I know exactly what you mean.
How much are you willing to bet though, that in some hidden cubby hole or mattress in the house of every high religious zealot in Iran, there's some sort of sexual content. from DVD's to Mag's.
We fear what we cannot tame within ourselves, and therefore, the church, the synagog, and Islam have banned many things, chief among them is sexual content. The reason it's becoming more of an issue in recent years, is because modern people such as ourselves, have realized, it's not a sin to have desires, and should be embraced. For only through embracing our own wants and needs, do we recognise ourselves and gain mastery over our lives.
Ooops... didn't mean to get all philosofical on you all... ;)
you get my drift though.
A.
They don't need porno, btyk. Just ask the catholic priests and their altar boys.
The more powerful/charismatic a religious leader is, the more I bet they fool around when they think nobody is watching.
Shalom. Iran has porn stars?
Shalom.
Iran has porn stars? Iran has porn? :)
I'm certain if western secular countries examined Islamic countries under a magnifying glass there'd many of these sorta incidents. But we in the west have to try to not judge other countries' laws and societies by our own standards. Iran has fully implemented religious law in force. This might seem strange to us, and unfairly harsh in its' implementation, but if ya flip through the Bible or Torah you'll see the laws they're using echoed. Judaism has many laws governing modesty, adultery/infidelity, sexuality, etc. The only difference between us and them is they're much more a "by the book" culture. This is something reliigous fundies in the west need to keep in mind when they try for legislation against porn and related issues. If we implemented full Biblical Law in the US say we'd be executing people for morality crimes too as the Qur'an is a verbatim ripoff of Torah's laws. Some examples:
20. You shall not lie carnally with your neighbor's wife, to become defiled by her.
29. For anyone who commits any of these abominations, the persons doing so shall be cut off from the midst of their people. - Leviticus 18
Some interpret this to mean exile, others call fro the death penalty. If we implemented this adherence in the US much of Hollywood's A list would be gone. ;)
Some also use Lev 18:6,19 for general modesty laws though they both mention relatives and not coming near a woman during her menstral cycle which I imagine would be the source for Islamic law as well.
a man and a woman not to go out on a date for any purpose other than
serious discussion of marriage, and never to have a
“boyfriend-girlfriend” relationship of any kind.
This section of law is used very often in Israel and you can see stories about it fairly often. It's also the source of why some rleigious Jews wont shake hands with a woman who is not their wife or relative. Myself included.
Was another Iran story a few weeks ago about an eldery woman "discovered" baking bread at home with two younger men in their 20's and she was charged with adultery. So this kind of thing is going on all the time. Though ridiculous to many of us, it's religious law for them and not totally alien as the laws are in our own Bibles. So we need to keep that in mind before blanket condemning them for it.
I'd much rather be happy than right any day.
