Why is pussy a derogatory name for a wimpy male?

I was watching a "romantic" movie. And in the movie the father tells the son to "stop being a pussy". Now to my knowledge of heterosexual men, they love pussy......  so why use it in a derogatory way ???? If pussy is a good thing.... why call a wimpy, wussy, man a pussy????  Robin Williams made a quote in an interview that his favorite word was "pussy", it was warm and welcoming. When I hear someone call a male a pussy..... I tell them to find another word.... pussy is a great thing... we women have it and men want to be in it.  So I think as women we should start to retrain men and women to stop using pussy as a derogatory name agianst another person.

Short answer? For all the same reasons that a dick is regarded as aggressive and threatening by some. (I'm talking about an actual dick, here.)

When it gets excited, a dick lifts its head, becomes hard and rigid, ready to penetrate a pussy, to do some fucking, which by comparison is soft, passive, waiting to be penetrated, to be fucked.

i think being called a pussy is derogatory for a guy because it implies that he has one.. in other words he lacks the essentials to be referred as manly.. another reason could be that by being called a pussy, insinuates that they receive dick.. making them gay which can be insulting to a hetero for obvious reasons... but i agree, pussy is great... i myself thoroughly enjoy a girl with a tasty vagina... lol it's all in context.. it shouldn't be at all insulting to a guy to be called a dick cause that would mean they like fucking people over lol and in most cases it's true

men are referred to as a cunt all the time

in my experience more so than women. but..it can either be negative "he is such a cunt" or positive he's a good cunt" maybe that just how we use it in NZ. maybe the being a pussy thing also relates to being a pussy cat? but yes i believe its mean to emasculate men by associating them with women. i agree with the dick/prick difference. maybe people just love using body parts as insults..a boob, an asshole, dickhead etc..

Different meanings

I don't agree with anonymous that calling someone a pussy is a more polite version of calling them a cunt, I think the two have different meanings...

Calling a guy a pussy is saying that he is wimpy, non-assertive, non-aggressive... i.e. exhibiting behaviors more stereotypically feminine than masculine. A woman is not generally called a pussy (except, perhaps, if she is in a situation where a more masculine behavior might otherwise be expected from her).

Calling a girl a cunt is either saying she's bitchy, a ball-breaker, etc., or possibly merely reducing her to an object. A man is not generally called a cunt.

Male anatomical slang also is not really interchangeable. For example, although there is overlap, calling a guy a prick or a dick aren't necessarily the same. For example, the guy who forgets a girl's birthday is a dick. The guy who breaks up with a girl on her birthday is a prick.

re: "I have long wondered why "cock sucker" is used as an insult. Every time I've had mine sucked it has been a very pleasant experience."

Ah, but then you were not the cock sucker. You were the cock suckee. If you enjoy sucking cock, you'd have a stronger case for saying that it's not an insult. (And fortunately, many people do indeed enjoy it!)

I suspect it came to be an insult because it has often been seen as something that someone doesn't want to do, that they may only do grudgingly or because they "have" to. If nothing else, it does imply that the person is to some extent being put in a subservient position. The suckee is perceived to be the dominant person in the pairing. So the insult would seem to be in equating the person with being in the weaker, dominated position.

Several years ago someone attempted to insult me by calling me a "pussy". I looked him in the eye and said "You are what you eat".

Related to your point, my friends and I have long wondered why "cock sucker" is used as an insult. Every time I've had mine sucked it has been a very pleasant experience.

Calling a man a "Pussy", is a politer way of calling him a "Cunt", which is also very derogatory!
Calling a man a "cock-sucker" is calling him Gay... which to some, is also offensive & derogatory.
