Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross
Better Orgasms. Better World.
i wrote about this problem before. It is now a year later and it apparently is still happening. there is this woman at work who like to talk bad about people. I don't know what I ever did to her but she loves to spread rumors that I had sex with a doctor. When the truth is I never did. I have fun at work and yes most of the time I am talking with the opposite sex. But I can honestly say at this job I haven't had sex with anyone. This is my workplace and I try to keep it as professional as possible yet I still manage to have fun. you should be able to get along with your coworkers whether male or famale without other people speculating. I am hearing these lies she is spreading, through the people she is telling. Now I know slander is a huge no no in the workplace. I want her punish and to let her know that this will not be tolerated. Are there lawyers that specialize in this type of lawsuit? No one should have there reputation tarnished at work. I keep my work and private life separate for the most part. A few people at work know that I am close with Carlin and do whatever I can to help her and Betty with their sex positive feminism.
I wish I could do more. But women like this bitch at my job needs to be stopped. As women we are suppose to stand together not against each other!
went to my boss
I spoke to my supervisor last night and she "seemed" sincer enough that this situation needs to be addressed and stopped. Due to the inappropriate nature of the situation. So I went to my big boss this morning with the situation, and the first thing that came out of her mouth was "well what did you do to her?" Seriously??!!?!?! I am at fault for someone spreading rumors about me? I donot converse or interact with this woman. I haven't since she started with me last year.
I wish I would had documented all the times she has been saying things about me.But I haven't. cause I thought it was resolved when I went to one of my supervisors the last time she pulled a stunt like this. The person to whom she told this rumor to does not want to be involved. And he told me he will deny any knowledge of it if I bring his name into it. So that is not helpful. I am being told to confront her..... but I think in my state of anger and the fact that she will deny any wrong doing, it will blow up in my face.
I donot have faith in my boss after the comment she made to me this morning. She said she will hear her side of the story and further investigate the situation. That nurse is not going to admit that she is spreading rumors about me. If I go above my boss' head to HR, my boss will be furious with me and I am sure things will not go well from there. So now what?

slander in the workplace..... when do you say enough?
yes I have an HR department. I want her to pay for what she has done. I complained to my supervisor when she pulled the stunt previously. Nothing was done then. I spoke to a lawyer friend of mine. The only way it could be pursued legally if her lies about me were hurting my chances at getting a promotion or another job in my hospital. My friend was willing to send her a letter telling her to cease and decist or there will be legal action. I am going to speak to the guy who hear the latest rumor about me and I think in the morning I will be going to my big boss. I want to follow the proper chain of command but the problem is I did and nothing was done about the situation. Its very frustrating.

Maybe not slander
You might not be able to use slander but you can go with defamation of character. Maybe just a letter from an attorney or a warning from HR dept might be enough. Then again, you could ignore her as long as your career is not at risk.
Most places have a policy
Most places have a policy with regards to work place harrassment and poisoning the work environment. Hopefully you have been documenting the incidents- what has been said and to whom. Depending on where you work, if you have a union then you should be going to your union rep if not to your supervisor. Become familiar with the policies of your company and where needed remind you managers of their responsibility to deal with the problem.
The only pitfall may be that they decide that you are the problem employee and decide to dismiss you rather than deal with the problem. That is why documentation is so important as the company is liable to some extent if it allows a hostile work environment or bullying in the work place.
Do you have Human Resources
Do you have Human Resources in your hospital? There should be someone who you can tell who will deal with the problem discreetly.
