I need some advice, guidance, anything. Over the past months my PMS has gotten to be out of control. I can barely tolerate myself, nor can the people around me. Moody, angry, suspicious, depressed, exhausted, insomnia, bloated and overly emotional are the issues I'm dealing with. The physical symptoms are easier to deal with, but the mental ones are brutal. I feel completely unlike myself and I'm scared that I'm going to alienate the people around me. I hate having to say, 'sorry, I'm PMS'ing'. Does anyone else deal with this? What helps for you? I see some herbal combinations and am wondering if anyone has tried those. I'm not crazy about taking the pill, either, though I know that's probably going to be everyone's first answer. Thanks for your help!

Seek medical advice
Definitely seek medical advice from a real doctor but what I'm going to advise is basic and general enough and hopefully might help you.
I had pretty bad PMS in my 20-30's, now that I'm in my 40's things are better but some things I've noticed over the years might help.
Pay attention to what you eat: Certain foods can make the symptoms seem worse. Keep a log of what you eat, the time of your cycle and your mood. For myself, junk food or food high in sodium makes the bloating and breast soreness worse while raw fruits and veggies make it better. Also, drinking lots of water. Relieving the physical symptoms might help the mental ones, it's hard to feel cheery when you feel like crap.
Regular exercise: The same type of exercise won't work at all points of your cycle but it does help. Exercise releases endorphins, endorphins help you feel happy.
Rest: PMS kind of mimics the early stages of pregnancy and one of the early symptoms of pregnancy is fatigue. So rest when you need to.
PMS is a physical thing, it's your body's last ditch effort to prepare for pregnancy so definitely talk it over with your doctor, let her know you're hesitant to go on the pill and see if there are other things you can try.
Thank you
Thank you ladies, for your input! I'm actually starting the PMS process about 2 weeks earlier this month because I've been dealing with so much stress. And what Heylin said about it being your body's last ditch effort to prepare for pregnancy makes so much sense; I had never thought about in those terms before. This month it seems the physical symptoms are far more severe than the mental ones. I feel like I'm pregnant! Or at least what I imagine being pregnant feels like. (This would be completely impossible.) My breasts are huge and sore, I'm bloated, nausesous and I just want to sleep. I do have to say, though, I have been strictly limiting my caffeine intake lately and I think that it has helped a lot for this cycle regarding the anxiety and general emotional upheaval. (I haven't started the crying for hours thing yet, and I very much hope I don't.) I've also been watching my diet and have been eating more whole foods. Has anyone ever tried the PMS supplement made by AZO? Does it work at all? I will definitely hit the doc's office if things go downhill this month, though.
Talk to your gyn
their answer will probably be the pill but maybe they'll propose something else.
