Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross
Better Orgasms. Better World.
Dear Betty,
My labia are normal! I had no idea. I am 44 and have spent my entire adult life hating my long, unsymmetrical labia and being embarrased about the way they look. I cannot thank you and many of the other blog contributors on this site enough for putting my mind at ease so that I can finally begin to learn how to enjoy and appreciate my body and my sexuality. When I think of all the wasted time and energy spent worrying about my labia I am that much more motivated to put that fear away and get on with learning how to maximize my sexual enjoyment. I stumbled onto your website and spent several days reading about others' insecurities and viewing the gorgeous images in the Labia Lounge gallery. Before, I had only viewed other women's labia in pornography without knowing that many porn actresses have had their labia surgically trimmed. When I found out that type of surgery was available I scheduled consultations with two different plastic surgeons in town and mentally began to prepare myself for undergoing labiaplasty. My husband was mortified. He asked me to wait until next year so that he could spend the next several months trying to show me how much he loves the way I look. Isn't it sad that even with that kind of support from my lover that I would still wallow in my misery, romancing the idea of self imposed genital mutilation. Then I found your website. Thank you Betty & Carlin, from the bottom of my heart, for convincing me that I am beautiful just the way I am. You might be interested to know that I have already begun to move on and have set out to begin learning new masturbation techniques and how to have more enjoyable and longer lasting orgasms. Life is good!

I love to read posts like this. Congratulations on your new found love :)
Unfortunately there are many people who will get their only sex 'education' from pornography, and whilst I have no problem with the enjoyment of porn, it certainly isn't the place to learn what the average female body looks like. It happens though and it leaves us with many girls/women who think they have abnormal vulvas. It's so sad that women feel such digust at their own genitals, and even more heartbreaking that they'd go through a major surgical procedure to change something that was absolutely healthy and fine in the first place.
That's why I'm so thankful that this webiste exists - it can literally change people's lives and state of mind for the better, as you have proved :)
Your post ought to be one of the features on the front page of the website. I know the issue of extended inner labia is one that is discussed greatly on here, but given the amount of women who are still feeling shame about their genitals, I think it's a topic that can't be discussed enough.
High five for lovely long labia! I got 'em too :)
Thank you, Lady Grinning
Thank you, Lady Grinning Soul. High five to you too! This website HAS changed my life and I am thrilled at the prospect of our posts on this subject helping other girls/women in the same way it has helped me. :)
Love her user name Pretty Butterfly
Agree with the sentiment as well. Am I the only one who finds the surgically altered porn labia to look rather child like? I find that so disgusting. Anyway, I'm happy with my "prominent labia" (as my GYN described them).
