I was reading the Wikipedia article on Labiaplasty and after coming across yours and other feminists' opinions on the subject it sparked my interest.
I definitely agree with you that real women's genitals come in diverse forms and that it's wrong for women to feel bad about having long labia. But I cannot tell you how many times, as a thin woman myself, I have heard that "real women's" bodies come in all shapes and sizes in response to the presence of thin women on magazine covers and on TV, while getting the vibe from these so-called "body image advocates" that these THIN women are not real women. I feel this is the same kind of situation going on with labia size. Who's to say who's a real woman and who's not, based on her weight, or her labia size? The women in pornography with small labia who are said to have "homogenous" genitals (by the same people, by the way, who say that ALL women's genitals are different) are just as real as a woman with longer labia. Neither is better or worse. I also feel that most of the people who advocate for long labia and tell young girls who think their long labia are unfeminine and say that it's perfectly normal and feminine, will be just as quick to say that a large clitoris is unfeminine because an enlarged clitoris is more like a penis. But isn't it true that the outer labia labia become the scrotum, and the inner labia and clitoris become the penis in the developing male embryo? Does that mean that large labia are more like a scrotum? No, and neither is a large clitoris more like a penis. They are both entirely separate entities from the male anatomy and having a larger or smaller clitoris or labia means nothing as far as being more or less feminine.
Anyway, my point is that, while advocating for the acceptance of long labia as perfectly fine variants of the vulva, you must also make clear that short labia are perfectly fine too. In reading the article I got the vibe that you feel real women do not have the kind of short labia portrayed in pornography. I really hope that this is not how you actually feel.
