Kiss Day is marked all over the globe on July 6th. This is the
most unofficial date of all, recognized by the United Nations, and the
most pleasant one. Various contests of kisses, mass actions and
festivals are organized on July 6th. The people in Russia celebrate
Kiss Day too. Moreover, they want to be the first in the number of
kisses.
The residents of Nizhni Novgorod plan to beat the world record in
the number of simultaneously kissing pairs, which for the time being
belongs to Mexico. 40,000 simultaneously locked lips on the main square
of the Mexican capital last year. The residents of Nizhni Novgorod, who
number 1.5 million, believe that this is not a record.
“We’re hopeful that we’ll set a new world record this year”, one of the organizers of this action, Gennady Guryanov says. "According
to statistics, there’re more than 200,000 young people in Nizhni
Novgorod, and we believe that at least, one-third of them will take
part in the “Kiss” event. And what will happen on July 6th we regard as
a dress rehearsal, because a serious attempt to beat the Mexican
records is set for September 12th, when Nizhni Novgorod will mark City
Day."
It is not for the first time that the residents of the 5th
largest city in Russia are making an attempt to make their way into the
Guinness Book of World Records as champions of the mass kiss. They
failed to do that in 2008 and in 2009, when only 6,000 or so couples dared
to exchange kisses in public, which , of course , can be compared in no
way with the Mexican record. And still the residents of Nizhni Novgorod
are ready to compete once again with the residents of the Mexican
capital.
Kiss Day is celebrated in other cities in Russia too. On July 6th
mass kisses will be held in Kazan, Samara and Moscow. In St. Petersburg
the event will be organized under the motto “Better kiss than smoke!”
