To Rabbit or Not to Rabbit?

Rabbit vibrator

It’s been years since we’ve first seen a rabbit vibrator appear in one of the early episodes of the Sex in the City. Since then this type if the sex toy has made quite the career. Provoked by a piece by Emily Nagoski, whom I admire, I decided to examine if it is really deserved. What’s better to have: a rabbit or a dildo and a clit vibe? What’s better for a novice?

Rabbit vibrator is an ultimate lazy masturbator tool. It doesn’t require much skill apart from getting yourself turned on enough to comfortably insert it and figuring out the controls. Those can prove a bit confusing at first – you may find yourself turning on the rotation in stead of increasing the speed of the clitoral stimulator. Once you get past this tough, you don’t even have to hold it (although rotation can be better felt if you do). In fact you shouldn’t try aggressive thrusting if you are using the revolving motion – rabbits don’t like that. You’ve got both your hands free to fondle your breasts, finger your asshole or click through porn clips.

However, that heaven is accessible to you only if you’ve got a rabbit that fits your anatomy. It’s one thing to find a dildo with a perfect thickness and texture and a clit vibe that’s not too buzzy and strong enough to get you off. Finding a rabbit may prove harder since not only those two things have to be in one toy but you also have to add a very important consideration: positioning of those two elements in relation to one another. You may encounter the situation when you’ll have to choose between positioning it for perfect clit stimulation or perfect penetration. Nonetheless it’s quite possible to hit the jackpot on the first try. Women’s anatomy and the design of the rabbits vary but not that much.

A separate dildo and a clit vibe can be positioned however you like, tough the figuring out exactly how to best position them might be a little difficult. Add to it that you’ll have to keep up two different rhythmic motions all the way through the orgasm. You get the picture. It can be challenging at first, especially if you haven’t yet mastered your orgasms the way you’d like to. Don’t worry – your hands have learned to do many much more complicated things – with practice you’ll discover what you like and develop muscle memory that will help you achieve what you desire. What’s more you’ll be able to mimic rabbit’s revolving motion without that awful racket that is associated with moving pearls or beads.

When it comes to material safety rabbits are problematic. There are a couple of them made from the king of all soft materials - silicone but they are quite expensive. Of the cheaper variety there is TPR – impossible to sanitize so should be covered with a condom and how are you going to put it on the whole rabbit? And there is jelly. Not a good idea. I still have my oldest vibrator – a jelly rabbit. When I last had a bedroom to myself I decided to see if I still liked it. It stung so much that I had to take it out immediately. I’m going to thrash it but I have a hard time letting go. The problem with materials, especially jelly and TPR is that you can’t really tell which you are buying unless you smell the toy or read the specs on a reliable website.

When it comes to dildo and clit vibe sets – you can easily compose your own. Decide if you want the dildo to be a bit soft or hard – if former choose silicone if later choose glass (or metal if you’ve got the money). For a clit vibe, if you don’t need a power-tool I’d recommend ABS plastic bullet or slim vibe – they are the cheapest but they transmit vibrations perfectly. The beauty of this solution is that you have much more to choose from and if you buy more you can pick and mix.

So basically there is no “one size fits all” answer. Just as there are women who’s Hitachis get covered with dust while they enjoy their Eroscilators, women who prefer the Split Dildo ever any other kind and women who hate it every toy will have its fans.

That said I’d like to dedicate this piece to people who made Bead Blossom. Once upon a time it gave me most intense orgasms in my life (using only the ears on my clit, no penetration). It was perfect in every aspect imaginable except two: it was smelly-jelly and it had a cord (I’m a world champion at cord detaching). Every Monday I put it in when returned from PE and played with it until lunch when I had to eat, pack my lab-coat and return to the Uni. Maybe somebody will copy the design, fix the irritating ridge and make it from TPR. Then me and my long lost lover can be reunited.

I just thought i'd comment to share my experience (or lack of lol).
i am 18 years old and i have very recently purchased my first toy, a rabbit, the Mantric Bumpy Bunny to be precise, it came through the post yesterday and its perfect, in fact my partner gets kinda jealous over it cos he feels he's being replaced bless him, but there are just certain things that the rabbit does for me that my partner doesnt is that such a crime? what he does understand though is that he is the love of my life and that no piece of machinary can replace his love and affection.

WildOrchid, what you say about anatomy is very true; I can't get along with some rabbits for this very reason. I find that when I have it in the rabbit is pressing too deeply onto my clit, meaning that I can't actually feel the vibrations at all, which defeats the point entirely. If I'm using a rabbit I tend to twist it around and have the rabbit part vibrating against my anal opening whilst using a seperate vibrator on my clit. So rabbits, can't say I'm the biggest fan. I prefer using a dildo and seperate vibrator.
