Excessive Farts, Cravings for Oreo Pie & Hormonal Breakouts Can Only Mean One Thing

The excessive farts, cravings for Oreo Pie, and hormonal breakouts are officially in full swing. That can only mean one thing: I am menstruating.

You know, menstruation is amazing. Truly it is. I've blogged about it before and we all know I love moon blood and all that good shit.

HOWEVER, the symptoms that come along with it? Not so much amazing. They never told me this when I was taking sex education. From my understanding, I would have some bleeding and possibly some minor cramping (but that's just for the really unlucky girls) and I would be done within five days or less.

LIES.

They didn't mention the possibility of: almost-debilitating cramps, constantly staining pants/underwear (yep, those are mine up there) the diarrhea and/or constipation, the gas, the constant urge to pee, the nausea, the headaches, the bloating... Or the fact that I'm lucky if my period doesn't run for eight complete days, with several days of spotting to follow.

Why didn't they tell me? Why wasn't this explained? CAN A BITCH GET A PAMPHLET?

So, today, I've taken several Midol doses and some anti-emetic medication. I'm bloated. My fingers are swollen. I drip blood on my bathroom floor when walking from the sink to the shower. I have to choose my sneezes and coughs carefully, depending on the type of menstrual protection I'm using. My boobs were absolutely aching until I actually started bleeding. Every place I go is entirely too hot for my comfort.

I guess I'm just not feeling it this month. I don't feel like masturbating. I feel like my period is being more of a FUCKING BITCH than a beautiful blessing from Mother Nature.

Thought all virgins were the same? Think again.

Try using a menstrual cup. It

Try using a menstrual cup. It worked wonders for me. I don't have to worry about tampons that leak, their horrible smell and the ridiculous cord. My period lasts less days and I don't have cramps anymore... About the other symptoms there's no cure I guess...

Great suggestion, but...

I've been using a menstrual cup since I was 16. I don't really see how a cup has anything to do with your period lasting fewer days, but if it did, then that's awesome!

I did notice an improvement with cramping with me, too, for a short amount of time. It's just an all around better product than anything disposable.

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, or if other women have experienced the same thing? But when I was your age my period was much worse, and I had cramps a lot. I found in my mid to late 20s that the cramps stopped. I haven't had cramps with a period in over 20 years. However, I still have the damned gas and diarrhea. Go figure. Maybe in a few years it will get better.

I recommend

I recommend Traditional Medicinals Organic Raspberry Leaf Herbal Tea. I drink it every time I get my period.

I have been taking birth control pills (AKA "the pill") off and on for many years, and they make a HUGE difference in how I experience my periods.

I used to have very heavy flow for days, along with bad cramping. On the pill, I have mostly just spotting for like 3 days max, with no real "flow". I don't buy/use pads or tampons--I don't even use pantyliners--I just wear panties that I don't care if they get a little blood on them (the same ones every month--blood stains give em away ;)
I do get some bowel issues still--mostly constipation. Nothing like what I go through off the pill, tho.

I have taken a break from the pill a few times over the years for various reasons--but I always get a return of miserable periods and so I go back on them quickly. I take them for this reason almost as much as--if not more so than--for actual birth control.

It can take a few tries to find the pill formulation that works best for your body, but it is an excellent way to regulate and ease your periods IMHO.

Just some food for thought ;)

Tried the pill... It just

Tried the pill... It just wasn't for me. I'm not willing to "play around" with dosages and all of that. Me and synthetic hormones just don't get along, I suppose.
