Better Orgasms. Better World.
I keep running into online dating ads. Maybe the universe is trying to send me a message. From what I understand, online dating was created to make meeting people easier. One feels as though they have met a more suitable match due to the fact that they are able to skip some of the initial small talk, and can make assertions based on levels of similarity and electronic compatibility.
It's an interesting concept, but I've found that people are their actions. It's how they say things and what they do when their lips stop moving, that tells us the most about them. However, I rarely see this side of the equation addressed. I am sure that people have found meaningful encounters via these web sites, but the ads project an all too perfect and easy way to initiate a fulfilling relationship. I understand that is the job of the advertisement, but it is thoughtless to make something as nuanced as starting and sustaining a relationship seem so simple.
Since I can't sign in or out of my e-mail without seeing these unusually perfect dating ads, I felt a bit relieved when I came across this short film entitled Alexandra. Finally, I've found a thoughtful and well done view of what I can only imagine is a common occurrence with these electronic encounters.
