Here's a very interesting article on how Japanese women are utilizing dating agencies to connect with highly-educated western husbands. Primary reason: it's a well to do demographic that these days, treats their wives more like equals and romantic companions. Japanese men, according to the article, are comparatively conservative and view women (helped along by the culture) as maids, homemakers, and child rearers. Period. I remember hearing about the first Japanese female office manager in Japan and how that was a big deal. I took a east Asian culture studies class in college. My prof. was a Japanese woman and she said how if you're a woman with a Ph.D. or Dr. after or before your name, then you tend to get more respect approaching what's given to men. Although, that's assuming the man in front of you knows your credentials.

I loved this. An example where feminist and pro-equality philosophy (and very strong desires) is slamming the battering ram into the gates of the old ways with enough women behind it to swing the big log. Reminds me of my and Betty's friend, Minori Kitahara who owns to my knowledge the only woman-owned sex toy store in Tokyo, www.lovepiececlub.com. According to her, the others were run out of town. Minori spent a portion of her time, and maybe still does, addressing the (anime) animated porn movies that are prodominantly male-desire focused, pseudo-rape, or blatant rape focused, etc. Her message wasn't to take them off the shelves, but to show that there's sex entertainment and there's sex reality. Further, even if you both love rape fantasy play or rough sex, that's not all that sex is. There's making love as well. Too many Japanese men are approaching women having taken that material too seriously and women are often forced to go along because that's all that's out there for them. That sets the stage for faking it to please him and we all know where that goes sooner or later.

According to the data in the article, the Japanese birth rate is extreamly low. Not high enough for regeneration. Literally. Will the women break through the gates and create a new paradigm there in the coming decades because they refuse to accept anything less? Once again, another example of when traditional ways are obstacles to happiness that might have worked before, but not anymore. And they may have worked out of ignorance of any other path better to follow.

I have heard of some Japanese men that are quite avant garde, but they're in the minority to be sure, particularly in a culture where going against the grain is even harder there than here in the west where being an individual is more celebrated.
