Better Orgasms. Better World.
Sorry for missing yesterday's blog entry. Been busy and not had time to write hot blogs, but getting to it. Nothing wrong with some very useful info either! Today, I want to cover what I do for vitamin supplements and what they've done for me.
Everyday after lunch -or- dinner, I take: 8000iu of vitamin D3 (as cholecalciferol), 5000mcg of B12 (as methylcobalamin), 300mg Alpha lipoic acid, 200mg of CoQ10 with ubiquinol (in the morning 20 mins before eating), three drops of Homecure brand's "Thyactive" bioavailable iodine supplement, and an organic multi-vitamin called "Doc's Best: the next generation", and two soft gels a day of Nordic Naturals brand "ProOmega" Omega-3 Fish Oil.
One of the primary reasons why I do specific supplements is I favor targetting vitamins and minerals that one doesn't get much of even if they're eating a healthy diet. The two supplements that fall under this catagory are my B12 supplement and my ThyActive iodine supplement. First of all, neither are present in the food I was eating. B-12 comes in natural form only via red meat (liver is the highest source and who eats liver?) and a few scant other sources in low quantities. I went through a period in 2007 to late 2008 where I had very low levels of B12. The symptoms of which were neurological: random jerks of fingers, limbs, and sometimes, just as I as about to go to sleep, my whole body would twitch as if to double over. It was sudden enough that it would wake me up from dozing off. I noticed that in some of my lovers when sleeping with them. Always when they are falling asleep and I'm waiting to nod off.
I went to a neurologist over a year ago for those and the other symptoms I was experiencing like sudden white flashes before my eyes while my eyes were closed (just as I was waking up in the morning) and auditory hallucinaitions. They sounded like a hammer beating on a tin roof. Always when I was waking up. I was afraid I had a brain tumor or multiple sclerosis. However, after the MRI, the basic neurological exam, and a overnight epilepsy diagnostic, the doctor pronounced me normal, or at least what was going on was not a result of anything that the tests could diagnose. Did he say anything about B12? No. Nothing. I figured that out by doing internet research into "twitching" as a search word. Still, it wasn't concrete enough until my general practitioner said we should do a vitamin and mineral run down via blood test. Had that been done by my original primary care physician? Despite the fact that he said the first day I walked through his door that my first blood test in 10 years would check for everything? No. Mysteriously he left vitamin and mineral tests out! I'm glad at least one doctor in his office had his eye on the ball.
So what did the tests say? 240/1100 in B12, and on the test read-out was printed info to the effect of: "Low B12 levels. Possible neurological side effects. Recommend supplementation." As it turns out from my research, B12 is used as a primary building block for the myelin sheath that covers the nerves of the spinal cord. If your body doesn't have what it needs to replace dead myelin sheath cells, then holes appear, so to speak.
If you know any neurologists, or a colleagues of one, get the word out to them. This guy was a teacher at NYU, I've told this to psychologists, and it's news to everyone.
I bought the Jarrow Formulas brand Methyl B-12 supplement from Life Science Co. (845-781-7613). I do one chewable losenge a day with food, tastes like cherry, and after a year now, my levels are 800-something/1100. Normal range and climbing. My twitch symptom happens extremely rarely now and barely noticible. The big full-body twitch, the flashes and tin banging sounds are all history. The doctor also said my musculature would benefit from a return of B-12 and it has. A lot of my other vitamins and minerals were very good or normal because I was eating raw greens salads from the farmer's market and various steamed and lightly cooked vegetables. Folic acid was through the roof. However, because I was going light on red meat, like they tell everyone to do, I had developed slowly over time a serious B-12 deficiency. Vegetarians are well-known to have B-12 issues for the same reasons.
This blog has already gone a bit long so I'll cover iodine in my next post. And yes, been having amazing sex and learning creating some new and very effective positions and methods for better and easier pleasure and orgasm.
