This week I attended part three of four of the Energy Essentials Series with Teeni Dakini. Teeni has been actively studying and experiencing energy work since 1990 and is an Advanced Certified Tantric Educator and Certified Process Therapist. The Energy Essentials Series teaches basic exercises and principles for energy awareness. Her website is www.teenidakini.com.

This class was called, "Container". It described the role our personal outer energy field plays in social interactions with others and our environment on a everyday basis and in more intense moments like conflict or sex.

It was great for me to learn, at least from Teeni's perspective, the nature of my energy bubble, so to speak; how strong or weak it is, how fraught with holes and how complete or incomplete, how it can react when in contact with other people's energy. Depending on its state, people can energetically crowd us or not take up the space they deserve.

I learned to hold the intention to change the shape of my energy and the space it takes up so as to make sure there is a balance between you and the person next to you on the subway, a date, or your sex partner. Teeni calls it energetic manners.

Energy awareness is as natural to us as using your arms to raise your hand. Teeni describes how we develop patterns of energy management as children, but those patterns no longer serve us as adults. They usually serve to keep us from having the connection, intimacy, clarity and success that we want. The essentials are skills that ideally we would have from childhood, but we didn't get-- usually as a result of this culture. The good news is it's never too late to learn these skills, and once we have them, they enable us to break our former patterns and build healthy energy habits, including awareness of what's happening on an energetic level.
