Gonna Ride that Man Till He Hits the Top

I feel sorry for Sanford. Really, really sorry. Imagine telling your soon-to-be spouse that you have desires unrelated to marriage and then having them blow it off as "a phase".

Are you kidding? No wonder you people make marriage look like a joke.

Calling it a "leap of faith", Mark Sanford's wife, Jenny Sanford, told Barbara Walters (on 20/20, where cheaters are roasted and wives are made to look like "victims") that she (mis)interpreted Sanford's honesty as "cold feet":

"With the benefit of the knowledge I have about Mark now, I could point to this moment as a clear sign of things to come," she writes. But at the time, she found his honesty "brave and sweet" and thought he just had cold feet."

I'm going to stop right there. Jenny Sanford - and all of the women who support her - makes me sick and ruins marriage and healthy sexual relationships for the rest of us. I'm not going to throw stones at Mark Sanford because he acted on impulses that both he and his wife were well aware of. Unfortunately he's a politician, so his secrets are inevitably going to be revealed. But, Ms. Jenny, please. Part of me believes that you were riding this meal ticket all the way to the top and you were just waiting for the day when your husband's indiscretions will be revealed. You have a nice pit of money in your pocket, you're on 20/20, you even get to write a book about your psuedo-innocent stance on the entire drama.

Now I don't know if she inevitably says "You know... I should have listened... Mark Sanford isn't a bad person..." but I have a feeling that that's how how it happened. Woman, if you're man says he's going to stray. Don't treat him like a child. It's the most mature thing a man can do. You re-evaluate your relationship and to an agreement that works for the both of you. Marriage will not change people's impulses. It never worked that way and it never will.

To be fair ...

Jenny had the money in the relationship--her great-grandfather founded the Skil Corporation, which made the first portable electric saw, and she financed Sanford's initial Congressional election run. Not to say that she's still not an idiot, but she didn't ride his coattails.

To be political...

I know nothing about this story, as I have been avoiding politics for over a year now, but I would bet that these women that attach and hold to a politician, through thick and thin (chicks), are in it for the social status or maybe even the power by-blow. Not the money. I’m tired of self styled victims.

Deciding to get into, or stay, in a marriage where one half chooses not to honor the commitment, without the consent of the other half, is no cause for anyone to pity you, or buy your book!

I don't!

He shouldn't have married her ass (and she should have divorced him, too):-)! Especially when he's one of those faux-"family values" assholes!
