Outsourcing Your Orgasms to Technology

Silkstone challenges women's interest in vibrators describing Sex for One and Viva La Vulva as detrimental to the female orgasm:

"...the mechanics of male masturbation are so much simpler. Dudes don't need electronic devices purchased at stores with names like Good Vibrations, books with names like Sex for One, or DVDs called Viva la Vulva."

And her finale is the best part - with Betty playing the role of vibrator pimp to all womankind:

"I know manual labor is out of style, but is this generation literally that lazy?  Bartender, a round of Betty Dodsons for the house, stat!"

Why must we remain "pure" and only use our fingers when men use porn, strip clubs, and our best friend in a bikini for inspiration?  You wouldn't be stifling my sexuality and limiting my orgasm to manual stimulation so that my man can give me an orgasm with his fingers?  And what about the 2M fleshlights that have been sold?

I guess she wouln't approve of our next sex skills series: sex positions with sex toys.

This is completely stupid.

This is completely stupid. How can we decide what "should" be pleasurable for ONE other person, much less over half the planet.

Jeez. Here's a crazy idea

Jeez. Here's a crazy idea silkstone, I don't have a penis. So don't compare me to a man.

I'm not. Of course if I had a dick I'd be able to just grab it and milk it like a dude. But I have a freakin clit. Can my fingers vibrate at 5000 rpm? No. No they can't. Does that make me lazy? No! Honestly what the hell.

I once read an article about how women should quit it with all the "frilly" stuff like candles and music when they're masturbating and just have a quick and dirty orgasm as soon as they possibly can - like a man. Why? Why should my sexuality be identical to a man's? The music and the mood are part of it for me. Why not spoil myself with mood lighting, soft music, pillows, and multiple orgasms from my vibrator?

What the fuck...  Why does the writer seem to think that we "need" vibrators? As if we couldn't come if we didn't have a machine doing it for us? I just like the variety. Rubbing my clit in a circular motion gets me off great, but sometimes, I want a different sensation. It has nothing to do with laziness. Just a sexual hunger that craves different goodies.

I agree with Jex. I'm not a man. The way I get off shouldn't correlate, in ANY way, with how a man does. We aren't made the same. He has a big piece of meat in between his legs that goes wild for a wet hole... That's not what works for me. I guess I'm complicated like that. Go figure.

I dedicate my next Water Dancer orgasm to Silkstone.

Woman Still Seen As "Other"

Silkstone, shame on you. You are plainly sexist and aggressively anti-feminist. Men are neither the STANDARD nor the NORM, and we as women DO NOT and SHOULD NOT (have to or need to) define ourselves in reaction, comparison or opposition to male behavior and male values. Your ignorant statements assume and maintain Woman in the position of the "Other", the "Second Sex". Why don't MEN masturbate like WOMEN? Why are they not more creative, more sensual, include more variety, experimentation and playfulness into their masturbation practice, slow down and also incorporate toys? It would never occur to you ask this question, because you automatically use the MALE way as the measure for the RIGHT way. Enjoy the rest of your unexamined life and your patriarchy-conformist orgasms - but fuck you, don't you dare tell me or my sisters what to do, how to do it, or that what we are doing is wrong merely because it is different from what men do.

Women need not always keep their mouths shut and their wombs open.

My inner voice was screaming "HELL YEAH!" over and over while I read Arielle's comment. Right on.

Has anyone read the comments on her blog?

I re-read this, Maura Kelly, and Silkstone, and I'm pissed off all over again. Here's what I posted on Silkstone's blog:

"Interesting critique on the reviews, but your critique on vibrators
seems to be specific to your own experience with them. I masturbate
fairly regularly and use hands, vibrators, men, whatever is around. I
don't think use of technology makes me boring or is indicative of a lack
of self-awareness. And I mean- how often do you drive? or take a
subway? or use a cellphone? a long leisurely walk is pleasant, but
sometimes I don't have the hour or two that it can take me to achieve
orgasm manually. And because it usually takes me that long to come if
i'm being DIY about it, if I didn't start using vibrators at an early
age I would have missed out on many, many orgasms that I was able to
have thanks to my trusty vibrating friends."
