While I commend her for her bravery in tweeting this personal decision of her to have an abortion. If she can no longer safely have children then she should get a tubal ligation. the definition of tubal ligation is as follows.

A tubal
ligation procedure
results in making a woman permanently sterile
(unable to get pregnant). This procedure is usually recommended for
adult women who are certain that they do not want to get pregnant in the
future. Tubal ligation is considered a permanent birth control method.
It tends to be a popular choice because women realize that this method
can offer extremely effective pregnancy protection for the rest of their
reproductive years. Women tend to prefer tubal ligation because of its convenience and lack of side effects that are associated with temporary birth
control methods.

Is there a possiblity of getting pregnant getting a tubal ligation? I highly doubt it.I have never seen a woman get pregnant after having a tubal ligation.the only way a woman has been know to get pregnant after a tubal ligation is by reversing the procedure or through IVF. So Angie Jackson or any other woman should consider a tubal ligation or a hysterectomy if medically it is dangerous for her to get pregnant again.

Abortion is a good thing when it is the last resort of failed contraceptives or a women getting pregnant from being raped.Abortion should never be used as a form of birth control. Women should take responsibilities of their actions. If they donot intend on getting pregnant then they should be responsible with their bodies and make sure they take every preventative step to avoid pregnancy. If after all attempts of avoiding pregnancy still fails then it is her decision to have an abortion or not.

Whether I agree or not, may I ask why you believe abortion should not be used as a form of birth control?

For the record, a tubal ligation is a more dangerous procedure than a medical abortion. Hysterectomies carry many side effects. There are other permanent sterilization methods which are safer and less invasive, like Essure.

its a womans choice.........

As women it is our final decision whether or not to have children. So If we decide not to have children for personal or medical reasons, then it is the womans responsibility to make sure she does not get pregnant. NO birth control method is 100%. And there are risk to ALL forms of birth control even Essure. This is what is listed as risk with Essure:

Risks of the Essure procedure

  • No form of birth control should be
    considered 100% effective
  • Not all women will achieve successful
    placement of both inserts
  • Symptoms during or immediately after
the procedure may include mild to moderate cramping, nausea/vomiting,
    dizziness/light-headedness, and bleeding/spotting

There is a more indepth explination of the risk of Essure on their website.

An abortion should be used as a last resort, or if the woman has been raped. Like birth control there are risk to medical/surgical abortions. Mifepristone(aka RU486),Misoprostol,and/or Methotrexate all have side effects which are explained briefly to the patient.

Yes, surgically deciding to permenantly sterilize oneself can be dangerous. But all surgical procedures have risk. From voluntary or emergent surgical procedures all patients are informed of possible dangers of the procedures. With this said the only way to ensure a woman from getting pregnant is a tubal ligation. That is if they would be at risk medically from becoming pregnant or choose not to have any children. A woman should alway discuss with their gynecologist the options that are available to them.

Tubal ligations CAN fail. It

Tubal ligations CAN fail. It has been documented. Hysterectomies, however, can not.

What I asked, though, is WHY you feel women should only use abortion as a last resort. WHY do you feel that abortion should not be used as birth control?

If the reason is that

If the reason is that abortion should not be used as bc because it is dangerous, then shouldn't it still be the woman's choice to choose that risk? SHOULDN'T makes a value judgement. I don't want anyone telling me what kind of birth control I *should* and *shouldn't* use. I am well educated on the risks of each; why should someone other than me decide which risks I should take? Why should someone have the right to tell me which surgical procedure I *should* have?

Ofcourse it is the womans

Ofcourse it is the womans right to choose. But she should know all the

facts before making the decision that is right for her.A woman needs to
weigh all the pro's and con's of each method and then choose . I wasn't
telling anyone what they  should or should not have I was stating an
opinion. What a person does with their body is ultimately up to
them. That is why we have free will.

Since you are so focused on the fact that I used the word *should*,
here is one of the dictionaries definition on the word.

Should-used

in auxiliary function to express a request in a polite manner or to
soften direct statement.
