Better Orgasms. Better World.
After 10 years of abstinenence-only sex ed and the constant assault on pro-choice healthcare clinics, it seems that back alley abortions are back in vogue. This time young women in the mid-west are self-inducing abortions by drinking chemicals intended to abort livestock jeopardizing their health and their lives.
There have been several cases in Wisconsin reported by veterinanrians and confirmed by "influential" pro-life organizations (I read it in one of my mother's pro-life propaganda magazines I found in the bathroom and I'm not linking to them here). The most striking piece of this story is that these pro-life groups criticized the veterinary community for not locking up these chemicals. There was no dialogue about better sex ed, opening access to contraception or, god forbid, making safe non-surgical abortions available to these young women. There was no sentiment that the desperate act of ingesting poison - that may end up killing you - signaled any failure on the communities part to support a woman's right to choose.
Why does our culture insist on making women responsible for every sex act? Why must we pubish our young women with unwanted motherhood?
I believe that the women
I believe that the women behind the pro-life (anti-woman) movement are simply at a lower level of consciousness than perhaps other people are in this world. While individual women within the pro-life movement may grow and become more life-centric and sympathetic, instead of fetus-centric with rigid adherence to rules taught by their churches, this group will always remain, simply with new members as the old ones die or grow to include more perspectives. I can only hope that people on this end of the movement can be compassionate for the unfortunate women who are raised to believe that they should have no rights over their own bodies and are taught to force their own opinions on others. Most humans want to believe that their own perspective is the correct one, but it could be extremely beneficial to everyone if we could personally learn to see others points of views without judgment (even if just for a moment). Because honestly, if you were raised in one of those woman's shoes, you would have the same sentiments that she does. While I recognize that this simple request is harder than it sounds, my hope is that one day the average level of consciousness will have risen, and more people will learn to accept others beliefs.
With that said, FUCK those damn conservative women who think that a little cluster of cells is more important than the young, desperate woman who would rather ingest poison than give a child an insufficient life and lock herself in an existence void of freedom.
