I remember sitting with Betty in a NARAL board meeting several months before the election.  We were all bracing for a McCain win and fantasizing about an Obama sweep.  We decided to draft recommendations for each administration knowing that if Obama took office it would mean a return to science, an end to the Global Gag Rule, and fair pay for women.  Well here we are!

Today, the FDA approved the first embryonic stem cell study. A U.S. biotech company says it plans to start this summer the world's first study of a treatment based on human embryonic stem cells _ a long-awaited project aimed at spinal cord injury. The company gained federal permission this week to inject eight to 10 patients with cells derived from embryonic cells....AND President Barack Obama issued an order restoring U.S. funding for international family-planning groups involved with abortion.  And to top it off the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act Passed the Senate.
