Coming Out During Your TED Talk

I first met Geena Rocero about 12 years ago when she came to nyc. My roommate was a photographer and she was being courted my several modeling agencies. I remember reviewing her modeling contracts, liking her but sensing an underlying fear. Now I understand why.

Geena came "out" as a trans woman during her TED talk and it brought me to tears:

Geena recently launched Gender Proud an organization pushing for more progressive policies for "trans" people. She is fighting for the universal right to change one's gender without having to first undergo surgery.

What a brave and beautiful woman.

What an astonishing woman with an amazing mother!

I'm still working through the whole cis-trans conversation, trying to uproot assumptions and unexpected biases/prejudices as I find them within myself. It's good to see such a strong and powerful role model to help frame the discussion.
