Christina Parreira describes coming out to her mother as a web cam model ie a sex worker (while pursuing her PhD in sociology):
"In a perfect world, I would still be a sex worker, but I could do so without being shamed or stereotyped for it. This goes for every individual who works in the sex industry. Sex workers would be treated with respect, would have labor rights, protection under the law. We would have the basic civil and human rights that we deserve.
Perhaps my mother would disagree with my choice, but she would still respect me. My mother views sex work as amoral. In a perfect world, she wouldn’t push her morals onto me, and would respect my right to do what I please with my body."
She doesn't have a relationship with her mother right now "to keep [her] respect and sanity intact". Although I'm close with my mother today, there were several times I cut off communication for my sanity. You love them but you know your own path. I consider myself a sex worker and I don't feel any shame or guilt about sharing my sexuality with the world.
For me, sex work is the most noble endeavor.
