I love this cover - I can't believe The New Yorker rejected it.  They didn't even give a reason.  It's no surprise that Robert Crumb has refused to ever work with them again.

that the New Yorker would not publish this - except perhaps they didnt feel it was flattering enough...
Crumb is the best, and so are you, Carlin...

Maybe it was because the art was so bad.

For me it was an uninteresting depiction of sex roles that were such a cliche.' His idea of butch and femme roles was not all that creative or even humorous. But then I'm a vicious art critic. When I was on a sex panel with Crumb, I liked him. His art has never been much to my liking. But he's a great guy personally.
