Hey, Carlin!
This is my first reply to something you have posted. I love what you and Betty are doing. I was surprised to discover that you were also raised in a fundamentalist home! I can relate to that very much. My father wasn't a minister, but leaving my religious training was a long and ardous task just the same! I was excited to hear of your own escape. It helps to know that there are others out there who have extricated themselves from all that! (Would you consider talking a little bit more about how you managed to leave your religious upbringing behind you?)People who don't have such an upbringing have no idea how deeply embedded it becomes, or how hard it can be to rid yourself of it!
As for masturbation being "Queer", I'm not sure. I, myself, am bisexual, and I find that I tend relate more to the "queer community" than the the heterosexual community. In the het-com, if you have the slightest inclination that you "might" be gay, then your'e not a het! I'm fine with that, actually. Besides,it was when I was masturbating was that I first began to realize that I had "feelings" for (certain) guys! I liked girls, too, but there was always this curious little tickle in my groin when I saw guys I liked, too!
That took me so long to reconcile, but now I have. It's so much better. When I saw that photo you posted of those two young women holding up the sign that read MASTURBATION IS QUEER, I smiled! Of course it is!! In fact, at work the other day, I had a chance to take a pot-shot at one of the Tea Party knuckledraggers I work with, who had said something rude about "queers", by retorting that if he had ever masturbated, that he had a same-sex encounter, too! It shut him up, for a while, at least.
Thanks Carlin, for what you and Betty do. It's a tremendous thing. It's fantastic being able to communicate to others of like mind. Thanks for providing such an outlet! I visit your site almost daily to see what's new, or to read what someone (like Betty!) has said about something I wrote. The Inter-net has revolutionized all that!
