Betty Dodson with Carlin Ross
Better Orgasms. Better World.
My parents are ardent Glen Beck supporters - they watch him every day, buy all his books, and they even went to his Washington rally. I hate Glen Beck for many reasons but I was shocked to read that he mocked Lawrence O'Donnell's emotional defense of Planned Parenthood--and the woman whose email drove him to tears.
Here's the video of O'Donnell:

On his Monday radio show, Beck played the tape of O'Donnell--a host whose feud with Beck is long-running--reading the email from a friend of his who described her need for Planned Parenthood's services. He said he couldn't believe that O'Donnell had teared up about such an issue.
Here are Beck's exact words:
"Stop just a second!" Beck said. "Hookers? Who depends on Planned Parenthood?" He then impersonated the woman, who said she had had an abortion.
"I've got 400 abortions that I have to have!" Beck said. "I have to have these children aborted!" He and his co-hosts then continued making fun of O'Donnell and the woman for several minutes more.
I do think this is the prevailing attitude among the men of the GOP. Planned Parenthood is for hookers who've had 400 abortions.
When I was in law school, Planned Parenthood was my only health care. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to afford yearly gynecological exams and blood work. I still go to Planned Parenthood for my birth control even though I have health insurance. It's half and the price and their office is 10 blocks from my apartment. Frankly, it's just more affordable.
STIGMA THIS GLENN!
How very typical for someone to use the
STIGMA that gets sex workers killed every year and oppresses and
silences them even when they SHOULD be able to go to cops in cases of
rape and violence BECK! Could you be any more clearly misogynistic?
I hear sex-negs go on and on about how women go into the sex
industry "due to lack of choices" & then turn around
and support political candidates trying to push policies in D.C. that
will only create MORE poverty and limit choices EVEN MORE. FUCKING
INFURIATING! These people are such no-brained, misogynistic,
authoritarian MORONS I can't even begin to tell you!
You know
what happens with women become "hookers" because of
POVERTY? They go to jail! Then they get out and have to try to start
over with NOT ONLY a scarlet letter on their chest from being a
former "whore" but a black mark from being someone with a
police record. This LIMITS THEIR CHOICES EVEN MORE! And, Republicans
THEN want to BLAME them for the state of an economy THEY fucked
up!?!?!?!
I'm sorry Carlin. I'm fucking losing it!
What the hell is wrong with
What the hell is wrong with people? I can't wrap my mind about blatant disregard for the humanity of others.
I'm definitely pro-choice. Abortions aren't necessarily happy things but I don't think they're all that terrible either. The sooner the better so the cluster of cells doesn't have to "hurt" but it all boils down to whose life is more important. The woman's or the cell cluster's? Hell, if it makes people feel better, we can even call it a baby. But ultimately, most people feel that abortion is ok if the woman's life/health is in danger but not any other time -- not if her career or education or marriage or mental health is in danger but only if she's in danger of physically dying. Even then, why is it ok? Perhaps because her life is more important? Yes, thank you, it is. Her life is always more important and she should be considered first, no matter the reason.
Anyway, I recently read somewhere (perhaps even here, not sure) that Planned Parenthood's services consist of 97% non-abortion related health-care services. Ninety. seven. freaking. percent. Amost all their services then consist of HEALTHCARE -- non-abortion healthcare, at that. It wouldn't matter if it was only 3% healthcare and 97% abortions. Whose damn business is that? Certainly not a bunch of nasty old uterine policing MEN.
Makes me ill.....
I could get really fired up, and rant and rave, but how about this? Let's give these misogynists a female reproductive system for a year and see how they fare. Not very well, I would think. And heaven forbid if they got pregnant!!! Their attitude is disgusting and offensive in the extreme.
These are the same limp dicks
These are the same limp dicks that want to make abortion illegal or damn hard to get and at the same time cut back or vote against programs that actually benefit children. I am so sick and tired of this shit. These assholes do not give a shit about children. If they did, the US would 1) have a national health system 2) get the hell out of these wars 3) create a national policy that would promote quality sex education so young men and women know how to prevent pregnancy and that emphasizes masturbation as a healthy, acceptable form of sex other than intercourse. The real issue here is that Glen Beck and others like him are really pissed off that their ugly, fat asses can't get a hot 16 year old to fuck them.
I'm sorry Carlin, I've lost it too.
Wincing
It's rare that Glenn Beck can open his mouth without my feeing the uncontrollable urge to cringe and vomit.
My parents are also fans, probably because they are so titillated by "famous" Mormons. Larry King's marriage to a Mormon was quite the event. Gladys Knight's conversion was news-worthy.
Sad.
I didn't know that Glen Beck
I didn't know that Glen Beck was a mormon. That explains alot.
My response to GB
I was so pissed after reading your blog post that I did a video on our buddy Glen.

@Carlin, Glenn Beck's
@Carlin, Glenn Beck's Mormonism might explain a lot, but it also is curious, too, given his fanbase.
Many evangelical Christians who are big fans are also very suspicious, if not outright hostile, towards Mormons in general. That whole "Mormons aren't really Christians, they are a cult," yada yada, etc. Maybe it's the enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend mentality? I'm not sure.
But as we've seen time and time again (i.e. Betty recounting the alliances between right-wing religious orgs and "liberals" during the feminist porn wars), strange bedfellows crop up when it comes to opposing rights and liberation for women, gay people, workers, porn producers and sex workers . . . other examples?
gone-let's hope for a long time!
well he got a show no more so yeah!...his fan base is dwindling..hmm...go figure right...he's a fad..out with old, and let's hope he is gone for a long time!....
Chuckle heads
Commentators like Glenn Beck give credence to the George Shaw quote: "the 100 percent American is 99 percent an idiot." It is no more obvious than the many political overpaid commentators and their followers.
