Women of the World NEED Contraception

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 12:15

CONTRACEPTION FOR WOMEN THE WORLD OVER IS CRUCIAL. Poor women can feed the children they have if they have fewer children. Imagine the insanity of the Bush presidency curtailing contraception to poor countries because it's the same as abortion. I'd like to see those greedy old men wearing suits in Congress deal with a hungry, sick, crying child just for one day. Shame, shame, shame on the US government for imposing a cruel sadistic religious morality that causes more suffering for the poor.  Even the UN has failed women:

We Can Solve It

The Alliance for Climate Protection has put together an ad that tells this simple story. And they're going to put it on national cable TV. They have Al Gore's blessing and their push is for clean energy.

If they can raise an additional $80,000 online, they'll also put it on 60 Minutes and 20/20 this coming week. Wouldn't that be great? Watch the clip and donate.

McCain: 2 Packs a Day for 25 Years

At the end of my seventies, I'm in much better health than McCain and I am not on any meds. I have been known however, to occasionally imbibe in the Magic Herb instead of taking an anti-depressant that are known to depress orgasms as well. As healthy as I am, there is no way I would consider running this country. That's a job for a much younger person. The thought of Sarah in charge is terrifying.

The Penis Song

A high school friend of mine in Wichita sent this to me several years ago. I adore Rodney and his song. It makes me proud to be a cowgirl. I lost the link but it just came around again from a girlfriend living in Florida. What's better than the world wide web?

As a dedicated financial donor to and their grass roots actions, I stopped feeling like a helpless victim after Bush got "selected" by the not-so-Supreme Court. I encourage all of our friends of sex to join in, get on board and get out the vote.

Vote for At Your Cervix

Submitted by Betty Dodson

I'm on the advisory board for a forthcoming documentary called At Your Cervix. It's the first feature film ever made aimed at improving pelvic exams, and anyone who has had one, knows they need improvement. The film exposes unethical practices that use women's bodies without their consent while they are anesthetized in order to teach students how to perform exams. That's right, right here in the US and it could happen to you, your wife, your daughter or your mother.

The filmmakers are trying to raise needed finishing funds. I'm asking my readers to go to ideablob and vote for them this week. They need about 1,500 votes to win $10,000.

My Abortion

This is so timely. Carlin and I finally admitted during a podcast that we both had 3 abortions (as Carlin said birth control fails and most guys aren't daddy material).

Anyway, a 23 year old woman has started a blog about her abortion process - it's like Juno but she doesn't keep the baby. It's pretty fucking funny and quite informative.

America's Outrageous War Economy

I for one am furious about Amercia's War Economy. So is Carlin, just ask her. This article I caught online really hits home. Here's an excerpt:

"Admit it: we secretly love our war economy. And that's the answer to Jim Grant's thought-provoking question  last month in the Wall Street Journal -- "Why No Outrage?"  There really is only one answer: Deep inside we love   war. We want war. Need it. Relish it. Thrive on war. War is in our genes, deep in our DNA."

Our rebellion takes the form of putting out solid sex information so folks can get in touch with their bodies by contacting their sex organs. Once Americans are enjoying a small amount of sexual pleasure in any form, they will begin to wake up. So join us in our effort to save America and Mother Earth. Have an orgasm for world peace today.

It was love at first see a woman with minimum makeup, short hair, tailored suit, no jewelry, and a solid, full voice...this is the woman of my dreams.  Besides Carlin of course.  I'm holding the image that we will appear on her show.

I Already Miss My Old Website

We wanted to make the old site accessible just for old times here's the link to the old look and feel of the website created by my dear friend, Grant Taylor.

I think he would approve of this new effort but it takes a little time for us seniors to get used to the latest technology. So whatever you're feeling I'm feeling the same way too.

We'll be archiving the old site asap. Stay tuned.

The Premier Issue of PHS News

This is one of the few robust programs in human sexuality in America. Thanks to my dear friend Eli Coleman, it is also the first to boast an endowed academic Chair in Sexual Health. Makes a person feel good to know the Unniversity of Minnesota exists. Remember my essay about "My Childhood Home?" Minneapolis is the fastest growing city next to Las Vegas.

They've just rolled out their newsletter and it's a wonderful resource for those thinking of a career in sexology or those wanting to keep in the know.

Dems Finally Pony Up & Support a Woman's Right to Choose

Carlin and I span 3 decades and we both had abortions without any regrets. Mine was a kitchen table abortion and she went to a legal clinic. Today we are going to do a podcast about this. Finally the Dems are dumping their tentative language in support of a woman's right to choose. The moral issue here is valuing a woman's life more than her pregnancy.

The Democratic Party platform of 2008 finally dropped its old abortion language ("safe, legal and rare"), which had asked that women not have abortions unless they absolutely must. The 2008 platform, just announced, says instead, "The
Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade.

Feminism Means Supporting Sex Workers

Tue, 08/12/2008 - 09:22
Submitted by Betty Dodson

Carlin and I are two feminists who support sex workers rights.  Not only do we want to see prostitution decriminalized, but we also want to change the notion that feminists are sex negative prudes.  Until women get equal pay for equal work, we're all sex workers whether we rent our bodies by the hour or sell them permanently in marriage!

Truthout has an amazing piece on the public debate over sex work in the wake of headline-grabbing murders of five women in Ipswich in 2006 that led to a heightened public debate about prostitution - the industry all five women were working in at the time of their death. The views of academics, the police and third sector groups were all sought in an attempt to find out how to ensure the safety of women selling sex.

When Is America Going To Grow Up & Accept Human Sexuality?

Sun, 08/10/2008 - 13:42
Submitted by Betty Dodson

What is it going to take before people wake up and question the instititution of monogamy...which is practised largely by women NOT men?

There is a basic drive embedded in the DNA of human males...a biological need to impregnate as many females as possible. Women have to be more cautious because we raise the young. No religion can control that urge except through extreme repression that desexualizes both men & women.

Personally, I don't trust a man who isn't sexual with more than one woman. It means his dick doesn't work because he's been repressed.
