Only Feel Guilty About Masturbation When I Orgasm

Hi Betty,

My story is a complicated one but I hope you can help me.

I am 42 year old man from London. When I was 20 I got involved with a fundamentalist christian cult. I was only in it for about a year but they left me with a profound view on masturbation that it was a sin etc. Even to this day when I masturbate and orgasm, it affects my confidence for about a day but this disappears the day after. I don't know why this is still happening to me.

Logically, I don't think self orgasm is wrong or sinful etc so I must still be affected on a subconscious level? The strange thing is I don't get this if I masturbate without having an orgasm. I can do that and it will have zero affect on my confidence and I can go through the day without even thinking about it, but if I orgasm it will be on my mind for that day.

Do you have any advice on what happened to me and what I can do about it?

Thanks
D

Dear D,

Yes, we often underestimate the emotional damage done to people with religious cults who damn all forms of bodily pleasures especially when it comes to sexual expression. Why not view masturbation as a meditation of Self-love? See it as a prayer to all the higher powers that can bring us joy and love everlasting. Turn masturbating to orgasm into your spiritual practice. That's what it means to me.

Another possibility would be to practice semen retention, a Taoist ritual that one of our Bloggers has done and has taught for many years. His name is Bila. Go back on our website or contact him directly at

After all, ejaculation ends sexual pleasurable sensations. So holding back and edging close to an orgasm feels best anyway. Then you can ejaculate every so often just to keep the tubes clear. Or not.
